Training Season Manifestation: What Abdullah Would Teach Instead

The Training Season trend has people pretending to pray for career wins and love. Abdullah, the Harlem mystic who trained Neville Goddard for years, would have stopped the prayer mid-sentence. Here is what he taught instead, and how to run your own training season the way Neville did.

The Short Version

The Training Season manifestation trend has people miming prayer while naming their goals. Abdullah, the mystic who trained Neville Goddard, would have corrected the pose. You do not ask for what you want. You assume you already have it, and you persist in that state until it hardens into fact.

That is the Law of Assumption, and his full method is laid out in Abdullah Unveiled.

What to Remember
  • The trend performs a request; Abdullah trained Neville Goddard to occupy the fulfilled state instead.
  • His most famous lesson, "You are in Barbados", refused every conversation about how the wish would arrive.
  • Neville defined prayer as assuming the feeling of the wish fulfilled, not pleading for it.
  • The real training season is persistence: nightly imagining, a disciplined inner conversation, and no checking.
  • The complete training is in Abdullah Unveiled.
In Plain Terms

Picture two people who want the same job. One closes their eyes and asks for it. The other closes their eyes and imagines their first morning already working there. Abdullah taught the second way, and he was strict about it. When Neville kept asking how a trip home would happen, Abdullah shut the door on him.

The trip came anyway, once Neville stopped asking and started living as if he were already there. Read the whole story of the teacher behind it in Abdullah Unveiled.

Abdullah Unveiled

The Hidden Master Behind Neville Goddard and the Law of Assumption

Before the trends and before the books, one teacher in Harlem refused to let Neville ask for anything. This is his training.

Scroll long enough this month and you will see it: hands pressed together, eyes lifted, a creator lip-syncing to Dua Lipa while a caption names the promotion, the apartment, or the relationship they are praying into existence. That is the Training Season manifestation trend. It is light, funny, and harmless. It also borrows the one posture that the most demanding teacher in the Neville Goddard lineage spent years training out of his student.

That teacher was Abdullah, the Ethiopian-born mystic who mentored Neville Goddard in 1930s New York. Abdullah never wrote a book and never recorded a lecture. What we know comes through Neville's own accounts and the independent memory of Joseph Murphy. Every one of those accounts points the same way: Abdullah did not let his students ask for what they wanted. He made them assume it.

So what would he have said about a trend built on praying for your goals? More than you might expect, and most of it is useful.

Key Definitions

The Training Season manifestation trend: a 2026 TikTok format in which creators lip-sync to Dua Lipa's song "Training Season" while miming prayer, with on-screen text naming the goals they want to manifest.

The Law of Assumption: the principle taught by Neville Goddard that an assumption, persisted in even though the senses deny it, hardens into fact.

Abdullah: the Ethiopian-born Black Jewish mystic who taught Neville Goddard Hebrew, Kabbalah, and a psychological reading of scripture in 1930s New York.

Assumption versus petition: a petition asks for something absent; an assumption occupies the state of already having it.

What the Training Season Manifestation Trend Actually Is

The format is simple. Creators pair the song "Training Season," from Dua Lipa's 2024 album Radical Optimism, with a video of themselves miming prayer. Text on screen names the wish: a career win, a milestone, a person. Some post alone, some post with friends, and almost all of them post with a wink.

Part of the appeal is the story fans attach to the song. Dua Lipa has said she is careful about what she writes, because words repeated like a mantra can come true, and many viewers read the song as proof. The trend turns that idea into a ritual anyone can copy in thirty seconds.

The instinct underneath it is sound. People sense that inner states shape outer outcomes, and they are right. Where the trend drifts is in the pose itself. Hands together, eyes up, the creator is performing a request. A request, by definition, is made about something that is not here yet.

The trend treats a goal as something to be asked for. Abdullah treated it as a place to be occupied.

The Original Training Season: Years in a Harlem Classroom

Neville Goddard left Barbados for New York in 1922, at seventeen, to build a career on the stage. By the early 1930s he had found his way to Abdullah, who taught small groups in Harlem. Neville recalled that at their very first meeting, Abdullah told him he was six months late, as if the student had been expected.

What followed was a genuine training season, roughly five to seven years depending on which of Neville's tellings you follow. Abdullah taught him Hebrew. He taught him Kabbalah, the mystical tradition of Judaism, which we trace in Abdullah's Kabbalistic approach to manifestation. He taught him to read scripture as a psychological drama unfolding inside the reader rather than as distant history.

There was no audio track and no thirty-second format. There was a curriculum, and at its center sat one hard lesson: the state you occupy is the reality you will meet. That lesson became the Law of Assumption, and Neville spent the rest of his life teaching it.

Why Abdullah Would Stop the Prayer Mid-Pose

The clearest window into how Abdullah handled desire is the story Neville told more than any other. In the winter of 1933, Neville wanted badly to spend Christmas with his family in Barbados, and he had no money. When he brought the problem to Abdullah, his teacher offered no plan and no petition. He told Neville he was already in Barbados.

By Neville's account, Abdullah instructed him to sleep each night as though he were lying in his parents' home on the island. When Neville kept coming back to ask how the passage would appear, Abdullah refused to discuss it and shut the door on him. Talking about the ticket meant standing outside Barbados, looking in. Weeks later a letter from Neville's brother arrived with the means to sail, and Neville spent that Christmas on the island. The full sequence is in "You Are in Barbados".

Now picture the Training Season pose through that lens. Every second spent pleading for the job is a second spent rehearsing not having it. Abdullah would not have mocked the creator. He would have corrected the tense.

This is not a rejection of prayer. Abdullah was a man of scripture, and Neville drew his definition of prayer directly from it: "What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them" (Mark 11:24). In his 1945 book Prayer: The Art of Believing, Neville described prayer as assuming the feeling of the wish already fulfilled, the same principle at the heart of Feeling Is the Secret.

Petition prays toward the wish. Assumption prays from it.

How Abdullah Would Run Your Training Season

If Abdullah took the trend seriously, he would keep the name and change everything else. Here is the practice, drawn from the method Neville said he learned in those Harlem years.

1. Name the end, not the route

Decide what is true once the wish is fulfilled. Not "I hope I get the job," but the plain fact of working there. Abdullah never let Neville plan the ticket. The route is not your department.

2. Build a scene that could only happen afterward

Choose a small moment that would only occur once the goal is real: a friend shaking your hand in congratulations, the weight of new keys, the first morning at the new desk. Neville taught this as a scene that implies fulfillment. Make it vivid enough to feel and simple enough to repeat.

3. Enter it at the edge of sleep

Abdullah told Neville to sleep in Barbados. Neville later formalized that instruction as the State Akin to Sleep: relaxed and drowsy, lying inside the scene until it feels natural, then drifting off there.

4. Train the inner conversation

During the day, the discipline moves into your thoughts. The voice that argues with the goal, rehearses doubt, or explains why it is unlikely has to be retrained, which Neville called the mental diet. This is the real training: not motivation, but repetition.

5. Stop checking the door

Abdullah shut the door because Neville kept checking. Persistence means you do not audit the goal every morning. Events will move through a bridge of incidents you could never have scripted, and you will act on the openings they bring. Abdullah was just as blunt about halfway commitment, as we cover in his teaching that there is no half-pregnancy.

Training Season Versus Waiting Season

The trend and Abdullah's training use the same word for opposite things. Side by side, the difference is plain.

Common Misconceptions About Abdullah's Method

"Abdullah's method means doing nothing." Neville still went to the shipping office and still boarded the boat. The assumption does not replace action. It decides which actions feel obvious when the opening comes.

"Praying for your goals is wrong." Abdullah objected to praying from lack, not to prayer. For Neville, the assumption itself was the prayer.

"Discipline means forcing a feeling." The training is a gentle return to the scene until it feels natural, not a strain to believe. Strain is a sign you are still standing outside the state.

"Abdullah was a myth Neville invented." Joseph Murphy described meeting a teacher by that name in New York, independently of Neville, which is covered in When Joseph Murphy Met Abdullah.

The Universe Unveiled Definition

At The Universe Unveiled, we define Abdullah's training season as the period in which a person stops asking for a desired state and practices living in it, night after night, until the outer world has no choice but to agree.

Glossary

Assumption: accepting as true, in imagination and feeling, a state your senses do not yet show.

State: a condition of consciousness you can occupy, such as wealthy, loved, or chosen.

Living in the end: thinking from the fulfilled wish rather than toward it.

Petition: a request made from the position of lack.

SATS: the State Akin to Sleep, the drowsy condition in which Neville advised entering the imagined scene.

Mental diet: the practice of disciplining the inner conversation to match the assumed state.

Bridge of incidents: the chain of natural events through which an assumption becomes fact.

Stop praying for the life. Start sleeping in it.

Training Season Manifestation and Abdullah: Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Training Season manifestation trend?

It is a 2026 TikTok format where creators lip-sync to Dua Lipa's song "Training Season" while miming prayer, with on-screen text naming the career wins, relationships, or milestones they want to manifest. The song is treated as a kind of mantra.

Who was Abdullah, and why does he matter to manifestation?

Abdullah was the Ethiopian-born Black Jewish mystic who mentored Neville Goddard in 1930s New York, teaching him Hebrew, Kabbalah, and a psychological reading of scripture. The Law of Assumption that Neville later taught traces directly back to that training. Start with our full profile of Abdullah.

Does pretending to pray help you manifest?

Only if the prayer is an assumption rather than a request. Neville Goddard, trained by Abdullah, taught that prayer means assuming the feeling of the wish already fulfilled. A pose that pleads for something absent quietly rehearses its absence.

How would Abdullah teach someone to manifest a specific goal?

He would have them name the end result, imagine a scene that could only happen once it is real, fall asleep inside that scene, and refuse to discuss or check on the goal from the old state until it appears as fact. See the State Akin to Sleep for the nightly practice.

What did Abdullah mean by "You are in Barbados"?

When Neville had no money to travel home for Christmas, Abdullah refused to discuss how the trip would happen and insisted Neville was already there. Neville imagined sleeping in his parents' home each night, and the passage came through a letter from his brother. The whole story is in "You Are in Barbados".

Is manifestation just wishful thinking?

The version that asks and waits can drift that way. Abdullah's version was a discipline: a sustained change of inner state and inner conversation, persisted in daily, that naturally reshapes decisions and action. It asks more of the practitioner, not less.

Where can I learn Abdullah's full method?
